Exemptions & Waivers - Selective Service Requirement

Modified on Thu, 15 Jun 2023 at 11:13 AM

To comply with new state regulations, all students are required to have submitted proof of registration for Selective Service with the State of Texas, as well as signing a statement that says the student has completed the Selective Service registration. These two requirements must be met in order to comply with state regulations.

You are required to submit a questionnaire about your Selective Service registration status. You will not be able to receive your waiver and/or exemption until this has been completed.

If you need to register for Selective Service, this can be done at https://www.sss.gov/register/.

You may complete your Selective Service Questionnaire in your Financial Aid Portal by following the steps below.

-Login to the Howdy Portal.

- Click on "My Finances" and enter the Financial Aid Portal.

- Click on the Status link on the left menu.

- Select the current academic year.

- Click on Selective Service Statement under To Do

- Complete the Selective Service Statement of Registration Status.

-If you are an international student, select "Exempt" since international students are not required to register for Selective Service.

-Once both requirements have been met, your waiver/exemption will be added back to your student account by an automated process that runs each night.

Men age 18 through 25 are required to register with Selective Service. For additional information regarding who must register, please visit Who Must Register.

If you have not already completed your Selective Service registration, you may do so at https://www.sss.gov/Home/Registration.
