State Mandated Set Aside Notification

The State of Texas mandates that a certain percentage of tuition paid is set aside for need-based financial assistance programs. The state also mandates that we notify you of the amount of tuition paid that has been set aside for this purpose. 


The notification you received may have looked something like this:


RE: State-Mandated Set Asides Notification: 

Mandatory Set-Asides for UIN ____. 

Dear ________________, 

We only send this email for information purposes and require NO ACTION OR RESPONSE ON YOUR PART. As the law requires, we will send a similar notice to you each semester. 


State Mandated Set-Asides are required of all Texas residents at Texas public higher education institutions. You can find set-aside requirements in the Texas Education Code, Sections 51.008 (b), 52.91 (c), 56.011, 56.012, 56.095, 56.463 (b), 56.465, 61.539, 61.910, 61.9660 and 61.9731. 


Under Section 56.014 of the Texas Education Code (Notice to Students Regarding Tuition Set Aside for Financial Assistance) we must notify you that state laws have allowed Texas A&M University to set aside $___ of your tuition for the Spring/Summer/Fall for need-based financial assistance programs for Texas residents. The University awards those funds to students with needs based on their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) submission.
